ILLUSTRATION

I worked as a freelance illustrator for many years. One of my favourite projects was to develop a series of dogs, cats, birds and frogs that were published as greeting cards and sold at Trader Joe’s, a large grocery chain in the United States. I had a lot of freedom to create characters and scenes of my own with minimal editing from the art director.

I worked with colour pencils by building up layers until the paper was no longer visible and soon discovered that I could achieve similar effects with acrylic paint. This gave me the opportunity to experiment with paint application, colour combinations and to discover the power of well chosen and well placed shapes, all things that I continue to explore in my abstract paintings.

I ended up doing over fifty card designs. I retained rights to the images and now self-publish them as blank greeting cards and prints.
